Game Concept
At its core, Project TetriSiege is a multiplayer networked PC game in which players control hovercrafts with weapon capabilities. Players move around the world and attempt to kill each other in a free-for-all fashion. Two points of view will allow the player to control his hovercraft. A third-person view will be easier for moving around and picking up powerups, whereas a first-person view will be optimal for firing at targets.
The catch is that this is no ordinary world; all players are confined inside of a large cube-shaped domain. To make it more challenging and fun, there is no "real" gravity, so players can travel along the inside of any of the 6 faces of the cube. This means that any player can shoot or be hit from a full hemisphere of directions. To make the terrain more complex, randomly shaped obstacles made up of unit-sized blocks will appear spontaneously and populate the terrain. Players can move onto the block surfaces as if they were a wall as well.
To add diversity to the weapons, random powerups will appear throughout the world that give players new weapons or temporary super-capabilities. Exactly what powerups will be included in the game is still being considered, and any ideas are appreciated. Currently, other than the usual increased damage and increased speed powerups, some ideas include a powerup that stops time or slows movement for everyone else except you, homing missiles, temporary shields, a sniper rifle type weapon, mines, bouncing projectiles, and a portal weapon that allows you to quickly teleport to the opposite wall of the map. Powerups will be an important part as they will make gameplay more dynamic, challenging, and fun.
Imagine several vehicles traveling along different walls of the cube simultaneously, firing weapons at each other causing projectiles to fly from wall to wall. If you see an enemy "above" you, he will look like he is hanging upside-down from the ceiling. However, from their perspective, you are also "hanging upside-down from the ceiling." We hope that players find this type of gameplay unique yet intuitive.
